I will start teaching English classes at Iglesia Misionera de Cristo on Tuesday, August 14. During the first trimester (12 weeks), we will cover the alphabet, pronunciation, greetings and introductions, adjectives, pronouns, a few verbs, and the vocabulary for certain themes (such as the classroom, the family, etc.). Many example sentences and dialogs will come from the New Testament, Psalms, or Proverbs. Each beginning student will receive a bilingual New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs.
During the second trimester, classes for the middle school students will increase to three days a week for 1.75 hours each day. We will be studying a course titled “God Loves the Outcast.”
The third trimester, the kids will be back in school. So, classes will return to one hour, twice a week. During this trimester, the students will learn more grammar structures and vocabulary, as well as further develop their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
In September, we plan to add an adult beginner and an adult advanced course on Saturdays. Those classes will meet for 2 hours each week. The beginners will use the same curriculum as the middle schoolers, with appropriate adjustments as needed. The advanced students will start with “The Hope: The Story of God’s Promise for All People.” Their next courses are not finalized, but will likely use some Christian movies (such as Courageous, Facing the Giants, etc.) as the focus of discussion, followed by a course on how to study the Bible (with the students taking turns leading study sessions). Each advanced student will receive a complete bilingual Bible. Reading passages for the students will come from both the Old and New Testaments.
Our school year will run from about the third week of July through about the second week of May each year, except this one. After this year, there will be a break from mid-October until mid-November. Since we’re starting a month later this year, there won’t be a mid-October to mid-November break, although we will miss two days of classes while I am at a women’s retreat.
Please pray that through these courses and my interaction with the students, they will come to know not only English, but also Jesus and the Father who loves them absolutely. For those who have already been reconciled to God through Jesus, please pray that they will grow in their knowledge of and love for God and the Son who died for them. Please also pray that they will reach out to their unbelieving friends to share what they will learn through these courses.
Thank you all for your prayers and support!
