Wow, does time fly! I just wanted to let you all know that I’m doing fine. My skin has healed up nicely from the radiation in just two weeks. I will need to go for my first follow-up visit in another week or two. I don’t know if that will be it for Dr. Eyre, or if I’ll need to see him again. I do need to see my surgeon every 3 months for the next year.
I received information today on the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Next April, they’ll be having a walk in Houston. I am planning to participate. A friend from work has agreed to walk with me. Any other takers out there? 🙂 I want to do this walk because the Avon Foundation uses the money raised by the walkers to provide not only funds for research, but also funds to treat breast cancer patients who are uninsured or under-insured. I have been very blessed to have group insurance through my employer that has covered almost everything. I’ve paid very little out-of-pocket. When I compare what was billed to what I paid, I am so grateful!
There are 40 million people in this country who have no health insurance. Every 3 minutes another breast cancer diagnosis is made. Many of those people are among the 40 million uninsured. I want to help them get treatment. Remember Jesus’ statement to His disciples in Matthew 25:40, “inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me”? Raising money to provide funds for treating people who can’t afford treatment is one way that I can help those whom the world considers to be among the “least” of this world.
So, I will be registering as a walker and will commence training shortly. Oh, I guess I should tell you that this is a two-day walk of up to 39 miles. It’s scheduled for a marathon (26.2 miles) on Saturday and a half-marathon (13.1 miles) on Sunday. Walkers can walk whatever distance they choose. I plan on doing a half-marathon on Satuday. When I finish that, I’ll decide if I can do it again. If you want more information on the walk, go to www.avonwalk.org. I don’t know when fundraising will start, but I’ll post a link here when that happens. If I have your email address, I’ll also be sending you a note then.
I am writing a piece about what I’ve learned through this breast cancer treatment process. I hope to finish it this weekend and get it posted here then.
We serve a big God, and He can do what He wants, however He chooses. I thank Him for the love and mercy He has given me. May He do the same for each of you!
